_perfect storm SSS125




    _perfect storm is a free Ableton Max for Live device that effortlessly and naturally generates a perfect immersive binaural storm experience.


    This binaural thunderstorm generator is built on our own library of ambisonic field recordings from around the globe. With a variety of storm layers and loops, we designed a Max for Live instrument that seamlessly generates realistic rain and storms with different energies and natural sounding changes over time. You can control the storm yourself, automate it over time, and modulate its controls, but it will still behave erratically enough to remain as natural as possible. Sometimes you might even hear some birds, or the backdrop of rain hitting leaves in the jungle.


    • Create an endless realistic sounding storm that lasts as long as you want. 

    • Use MIDI and automation to plan and shape your storm over time.

    • Design scenes or sequences with rain and thunder that evolves over time. 

    • Use as a backdrop, intro, outro, or texture anywhere you need it in your music productions.

    • Just turn it on and chill if you like.

    This is the first in our series of generate Spatial Audio devices. We hope you enjoy your new storms.


    Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about learning to dance in the rain.


    The Controls


    LEVEL

    • Output level control for your perfect storm.

    • Use this control if you want instant control over the level of your designed storm.


    ENERGY

    • Increase for more storm energy. 

    • The storm intensity will increase and decrease like a real storm. 

    • At MINIMUM there is only light rain.

    • You have general control of the storm energy, but it acts unpredictably enough to sound real.


    SPEED

    • Increase to speed the storm up, lower to slow the storm down.

    • Speed changes will happen slowly to sound more natural.


    MOOD

    • Increase to be outside in the storm. 

    • Decrease to be cozy inside.


    START

    • Naturally Start the Storm.

    • The storm will start over a period of time that sounds more natural.


    STOP

    • Naturally stop the storm.

    • The storm will stop over a period of time that sounds more natural.


    TRANSPORT

    • Link your project's transport.

    • Perfect Storm automatically mutes when stopped.


    • Minimum requirements: Ableton 11.3+ Suite

    • 1 Ableton Max for Live Device (1 .AMXD file)

    • 96k/24bit True Binaural .wav sources.

      _subsettings Episode 5

      Nathan Shubert x Spencer Carson "Heavy Lifting"


      Nathan Shubert and Spencer Carson were patched together for the 5th of our immersive audio experiences on location in our very own studio's loading bay in Vancouver.


      It's a modular synth mashup as Nathan and Spencer give us 10 minutes of an improvised musical soundscape set in a concrete loading bay. 2 synced-up modular rigs sent out to multiple amps and speakers created the sort of extra aural dimensions we were after. There's something special when you let the sounds escape into spaces, and that's something we wanted to capture here. Being setup with an ambisonic microphone on our camera rig, were we able to orbit around the space and taste all that the space and speakers had to offer.

      _subsettings episodes are presented as binaural sound experiences. What's binaural you ask? It's the simplest form of spatial audio, and you can wear any pair of headphones to experience it.

      _spatial awareness SSS083




        _spatial awareness gives you 64 spatialized Vital sound presets using a custom 850MB library of ambisonic field recordings. Vital is a free, open source, and highly capable, “Spectral warping wavetable synth.” It’s free to download and use, and our presets work with the free version of Vital . You may not already know about Vital, but you probably want to.


        Download Vital for free here. We have a large untapped library of spatial audio recordings, so some are being put to work here, in our first preset pack for Vital as sample layers paired with Vital’s built-in wavetables. We designed a variety of sounds around the sample layers that evoke spaces, textures, and ambiences that add a special kind of depth to the sound design. All sounds were originally recorded ambisonically, which we used to create 2-channel binaural versions for these presets. The music demo uses only presets from this pack, so you can hear the instant vibe these space layers create. You can also watch a patch demo/walkthrough here: (coming soon) We plan on making more spatial audio based presets for Vital, so enjoy this first batch. We recommend to update to the latest version of Vital to ensure compatibility with our presets.
