_subsettings Episode 5

Nathan Shubert x Spencer Carson "Heavy Lifting"

Nathan Shubert and Spencer Carson were patched together for the 5th of our immersive audio experiences on location in our very own studio's loading bay in Vancouver.

It's a modular synth mashup as Nathan and Spencer give us 10 minutes of an improvised musical soundscape set in a concrete loading bay. 2 synced-up modular rigs sent out to multiple amps and speakers created the sort of extra aural dimensions we were after. There's something special when you let the sounds escape into spaces, and that's something we wanted to capture here. Being setup with an ambisonic microphone on our camera rig, were we able to orbit around the space and taste all that the space and speakers had to offer.

Thanks to Nathan and Spencer for sharing their music and machines with us!

_subsettings episodes are presented as binaural sound experiences. What's binaural you ask? It's the simplest form of spatial audio, and you can wear any pair of headphones to experience it.

Stay tuned for more places and cool people in immersive, live music experiences as this series develops.

P.S. - Now accepting donations for a Steadicam rig for these episodes!

Low Alamode + Joy Canopy "Body Talk" / May 17, 2023

Make your body talk with Low Alamode & Joy Canopy in our latest episode of _subsessions.

Low Alamode & Joy Canopy are both Canadian producers and songwriters based on Vancouver Island. Low Alamode creates his own personal pocket of musical expression with rare elements of early house, soul, garage, hip hop, & R&B. Alamode is known to be a man of few words, but his very particular perspective makes itself invitingly clear whenever he picks up an instrument or weaves himself into a song. Joy Canopy brings a smattered approach to the way he uses musical inspirations in his songs and productions, rallying for our trust and encouraging us to feel something new. The creative conversation between these two distinct personalities is what we're interested in, and what we're listening to here on, "Body Talk."

"Body Talk" brings a tasty throwback feel with a tightly rolled-up blend of nu-disco, soul, pop, and R&B, and we're so glad both of these creative conversationalists stopped by the studios to give us the goods.

Music : Zoey Leven - Pretty Girl

Zoey Leven brings an always and forever 20-something indie aesthetic to her songs. Being independent means creating the voice that she wants to be heard with. Her music is persuasively authentic, tainted with innocence, and oozing with the right type of social gravity. Zoey speaks to our inner child and can charm the heck out of even the most adulted specimens among us.

Yes, even you.

When does music stop being just a hobby? How do you sound? Are you proud of the music you make?
